Ukrainian Journal of Physics is the general physics edition of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The journal is issued monthly in Ukrainian and in English. The journal was founded in 1956 (Ukrainian and Russian editions), and the English edition has been published since 2004 (prior to 1962, the journal periodicity was six issues per year). Up to 1994 the journal was published by the Publishing House Naukova Dumka. Beginning from 1994, the journal has been published by the Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

UJP is an open access journal; it has been available online since 2002. UJP has been recognized by the European Physical Society since 2007. The journal publishes original papers and reviews in the fields of experimental and theoretical physics including studies on elementary particles, nuclear, atomic and molecular physics, optics and quantum electronics, gases, plasmas, condensed matter physics, statistical and quantum physics, nanophysics. All papers pass through peer review and editorial control. The accepted papers are classified into topical sections. The journal is oriented to a wide circle of researchers, university lecturers, professors and students.

The Editorial Board consists of recognized experts in different fields of physics, and it is headed by Acad. A.G. Zagorodny, the full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU) and the director of the Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics NASU. The previous Editors-in-Chief were Acad. V.E. Lashkarev (from 1956 to 1972), Acad. A.A. Smirnov (from 1972 to 1988), Acad. A.G. Sitenko (from 1988 to 2002), and Acad. M.S. Brodyn (from 2002 to 2010). The International Advisory Editorial Board comprises world-recognized physicists from different countries.
